Mandated Reporter Training for New York State

New York State Education Law requires select individuals, when applying initially for a professional license or teaching certification, to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework in the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This online course fulfills this mandatory one-time training requirement for all New York mandated reporters.

Advantedge Education, Inc is an approved New York State Education Department provider of training in child abuse identification and reporting, and was assigned provider number 10685.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for all New York mandated reporters who include the following interprofessionals: physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physician assistants, specialist assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, optometrists, podiatrists, medical students and residents, psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, school teachers, school psychologists, school administrators, and child care personnel.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the history of protecting children and vulnerable populations.
  2. Recognize the signs and symptoms of child abuse, maltreatment/neglect.
  3. Identify the legal responsibilities of the mandated reporter in New York.
  4. Demonstrate the role of the mandated reporter.
  5. Summarize the steps to report child abuse in New York.
  6. Identify resources for additional information about child abuse.

Activity Goal

This activity is designed to address the following core and team competencies: Medical Knowledge, Interpersonal Communications, Professionalism, Roles & Responsibilities, and Work in Interdisciplinary Teams.


Claiming Credits

This self-guided enduring material takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete. Successful completion is achieved after scoring 80% or greater on the course exam.

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs. 

This activity is approved for 2.5 CE Credits.

All other professions

All participants who complete the requirement will receive a Certificate of Completion. This activity was designated for 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). For information on the acceptance of continuing education credit designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits, consult your professional licensing or certification board.

We securely transfer your record of course completion to the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, every day at 5:30 pm EST. Please contact us if you have any questions about this transfer. As part of this process we are required to collect additional personal information (SSN and date of birth) to match your state application with course completion.

Certificates of Completion

Learners who successfully complete this course will receive two certificates:

  1. The continuing education credit certificate is available immediately upon submitting feedback. This can be reprinted at any time from your student account.
  2. The other is a document from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) which we certify and send to you within 7 business days of passing the course. The NYSED certificate is your official attestation that you fulfilled the mandated reporter requirement.
