Child Abuse: Mandated Reporter Training in New York State


New York State Education Law requires select individuals, when applying initially for a professional license or teaching certification, to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework in the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This online course fulfills this mandatory one-time training requirement for all New York mandated reporters.

Target Audience

The Child Abuse: Mandated Reporter Training in New York State course is required for all mandated reporters who include the following interprofessionals: doctors, registered nurses, dentists, dental hygienists, chiropractors, optometrists, podiatrists, psychologists, psychoanalysts, social workers, mental health counselors, behavior analysts, school teachers, school psychologists, school administrators, and school service personnel.

This course features a pre-test and post-test to help measure your existing knowledge gaps, progress tracking, interactive content, and test yourself activities. You can even practice completing the LDSS-2221A form using information from one of the course's many case studies.

Daily Transfer to New York State Education Department

We securely transfer your record of course completion to the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, every day at 5:30 pm EST. Please contact us if you have any questions about this transfer. As part of this process we are required to collect additional personal information (SSN and date of birth) to match your state application with course completion.

Certificates of Completion

In order to receive a certificate of completion, you must complete all sections of the course, pass the exam with at least an 80%, and submit course feedback through an electronic evaluation form.

Learners who successfully complete this course will receive two certificates:

  1. The continuing education credit certificate for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, ACPE Credit, or ANCC Credit Hours is available immediately upon submitting feedback. This can be reprinted at any time from your student account.
  2. The other is a document from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) which we certify and send to you within 7 business days of passing the course. The NYSED certificate is your official attestation that you fulfilled the mandated reporter requirement.

Diane Teutschman, M.S.Ed.

Diane is a certified trainer for the New York State mandated Child Abuse and Neglect Reporter Training. For the past 15 years she has worked as an academic advisor and adjunct instructor in the Teacher Preparation Department at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. Diane brings 20 years experience teaching all ages and levels of learning from nursery school children to college students. Diane also provides training and seminars in conflict resolution and holds a certification in Olweus Bullying Prevention training.
